OS X Mavericks 10.9.5 (13F34)

OS X Mavericks 10.9.5 (13F34)

OS X Mavericks includes more than 200 new features, including Maps and iBooks apps that now come to Apple computers, tags and tabs inside the standard Finder file manager, improved support for multiple displays, new kernel-level technologies for new levels of power efficiency and performance, and an all-new version of Safari.

Advanced technologies.

High performance and long battery life are two things that our customers value about Mac. In OS X Mavericks, we’ve taken it a step further. We’ve reimagined every layer of the operating system, from the platform to apps, to save energy while improving responsiveness. Here are just a few of the innovations that make your Mac run more efficiently and effectively.

Timer Coalescing - the task is to intelligently group several small low-level operations for joint execution. As a result, the processor has more frequent idle periods, during which it can switch to a low-power mode and save battery power. In some cases, CPU activity is reduced by 72%, which is very important for laptops. At the same time, Apple promises that the technology will not affect the performance and responsiveness of the system.

App Nap - allows you to save energy when working with several applications. Thus, OS X determines when the program window is completely covered by windows of others from the user's view. And if in such a window the application does not perform some work for the user (playing music, downloading files, checking mail, etc.), then App Nap minimizes the resources allocated to the program. When the user returns to this window, the OS instantly returns full functionality to the application. The technology works similarly to Safari tabs, where only visible pages also work at full capacity. Thanks to App Nap, CPU usage can be reduced by up to 23%. By the way, the Safari browser also has Power Saver technology, which analyzes the content displayed on the screen and reduces the load on those elements that are not visible. In addition, the browser can stop resource-intensive content such as Flash animation, so the user manually launches it.

Compressed Memory - allows you to increase the speed of your computer. When running several applications, the RAM can fill up, causing the system to become noticeably less responsive. Now, when the RAM is full, OS X Mavericks automatically compresses inactive data, freeing up significant amounts for current tasks. As soon as the compressed memory elements are needed, the OS quickly unpacks them. Thanks to this, in some cases the system becomes 1.4-1.5 times more responsive.

Safari Power Saver - without you even noticing.

For the battery too.

Many websites display animations using power-hungry plugins that can drain your battery. OS X Mavericks solves this problem. The new Safari Power Saver feature detects when you’re paying attention to content and when you’re not. Animations in the center of the page play as normal. But if they’re in the background, Safari Power Saver pauses them. You’ll see a still image, and the animation won’t play until you click on it. That way, content you don’t care about won’t drain your battery. With Safari Power Saver, your processor uses up to 35% less power when browsing websites with plugins.

Compressed memory.

Mac becomes faster and more responsive.

A place is being freed up.

The more memory your Mac has, the faster it runs. But if you have multiple apps open at once, your Mac uses more memory. OS X Mavericks includes memory compression technology that frees up your Mac's memory as needed. When your Mac runs low on memory, OS X automatically compresses inactive apps to free up some memory.
