Mongoose 2.0.2

Panning is one of our most powerful tools as mixing engineers, but because we have to create our mixes for multiple environments (headphones, speakers, etc.), we are limited in how we can pan our instruments while still sounding natural across all of these playback systems. Have you ever noticed that panning an instrument to one side sounds good on speakers, but hurts your brain on headphones? That's because in real life, sound doesn't go to just one ear unless it's coming from your ear (like headphones).

Mongoose solves this problem by summing the low frequencies to mono, so no matter how far you pan your instruments, they'll sound equally natural on headphones or speakers.

Mongoose - Just the Facts

• Sums low frequencies to mono with adjustable crossover.

• Very low CPU load.

• Focus and tighten the lows, ensuring the mix carries through.

• Create contrast with high frequency extension.

• Sculpt the width and depth of your mix.

• No phase issues when summing to mono.

Keep in mind that our job as mixers is essentially the same as a magician: to create a satisfying illusion in the minds of the audience. So while left and right are all we have in stereo, mono bass summation focuses the center image, creating the illusion of more space in the stereo field, which in turn simplifies the mixing process. Mongoose makes it easy to get a clear center image with any width on the sides.
